Hurricane Katrina Relief

For many of us, New Orleans is a place which is famous for its culture and cuisine.  As tourists, we will grieve the loss of the unique sights, sounds, and tastes that New Orleans had to offer.  This city is much more than a tourist’s delight.  It is the home of thousands, and they have lost their homes, loved ones, jobs, hopes and dreams.

Consider being in a strange location, in a strange town and not knowing when or if you can return home.  Imagine not being able to check on loved ones, not being able to take care of yourself and your family, not having even the basic necessities.  Imagine owning a business, and not knowing if it still exists.  Add to this the loss of financial security and wondering how you will be able to return to the life you once had.  Fortunately, I do not have these concerns at this time, but this catastrophe could have happened to any one of us at any time.  I do have one concern-what can I do to help?

I have chosen to start from the security of my own home.  I will be auctioning a selection of limited edition prints of the New Orleans area.  I have not visited the other regions affected by Hurricane Katrina, but I feel the same concerns for them.  All the proceeds from the auction will go to the American Red Cross, which is sending help and support to all the victims.  I will also be covering the cost of shipping.  This is only one of the ways in which I plan to help those people in need, and I hope that you will join in helping them as well.  If you choose to help by participating in the auction, you will receive a special, limited edition print for your contribution.  If you choose to help the victims in another way, great!  I can’t help everyone, and I’m guessing you can’t either.  The key is, if we each help someone, maybe everyone in need will receive help.

If you choose to participate in the auction, the prints you will be bidding on are printed using archival materials to ensure a long-lasting image rated in the 100+ year range.  Every print will be printed in sizes ranging from 8x10 to about 8x12, depending on the image, on 11x14 or larger paper.  This allows space for the signature and at least an inch around the image for mounting and preservation purposes.  Each print will be signed, numbered, and listed as a Hurricane Katrina Limited Edition series.  The total number of limited edition prints from each image will only be 25.  I will auction off the #2 through #24 images in the edition. The #1 image will be saved for showing/donation to New Orleans for one of the museums.  The last of the series will be auctioned off to a particular cause or fundraiser related to Hurricane Katrina.  My intention is that for your donation to the Red Cross, you will receive a valued print to be proudly displayed in your home or business.  Your print might or might not appreciate in value over time.  It doesn’t matter to me why you might choose to purchase one of the prints.  I only hope that you give what you can to help the many who are in need.

Bypass all this and go straight to the Red Cross to help.

10/2005  Thanks to ebay and the charitable giving network over $2000 was raised.  I feel at this time the money generated from the auction sites will not equal that from private or gallery sales the remainder of the prints will be sold directly or through a gallery.  Please contact me about print availability and purchase.

On-the-Street.jpg (67303 bytes) I was told this mans name is Robert and was asked if I had any information on his current situation.  I do not  his current status but if you do and could let me know I will  pass it on. This is what I was told about Robert from the concerned individual.

Robert was/hopefully still is 92 years old. He lives in the historic Treme neighborhood. Unfortunately it was one of the more flooded parts and no one I know down there that I have been able to contact has heard about him yet.
